Find out details of some of the best day ticket carp fishing venues in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire from Trakker Team Member, Sarah Brown
Being from Nottinghamshire, I'm lucky enough to have a few good day ticket waters locally, all of which offer something a little different. Here is a short review of the venues I have visited the most.
A1 Pits (Nottinghamshire)
The ‘pits’ offers something for everyone. Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced angler, this venue will accommodate all. Not only are there 6 gravel pits ranging from an single acre right up to 46 acres, give or take, but there is also a popular stretch of the River Trent and both the lakes and the river permit night fishing.
If you are looking to get a bite or three, the smaller pits can provide multiple captures. If you fancy a bit more of a challenge, then look at pits 5 and 6. Both are considerably larger and heavily pressured. They can be tricky, but with good watercraft and a lot of patience, the rewards are there to be had. The fish can often reside at range but if you can position yourself on a prevailing wind, you can be on to a winner. Five of the six lakes have produced fish to over 30lb and the river has been known to throw up the odd carp, not to mention anglers regularly catching double figure barbel.
Tickets are purchased on the bank so just find a peg and start fishing. The bailiff will come and collect your money.

Trent View Fishery (Nottinghamshire)
One of Nottinghamshire’s newest editions is the impressive Trent View Fishery near Lowdham. Trent View is a large, deep gravel pit with 46 pegs and you are required to book on beforehand.
This place is crammed with fish, and they have come on in leaps and bounds since being stocked. Not only have they piled on the pounds, but they've also thrived in their surroundings, benefitting from the clear water and darkened nicely.
Like all gravel pits, the fish here love a wind, especially a new one. The bottom begins to shelf off around 20 yards or so out and a lot of my captures came from this feature, before it drops down into depths of 20ft plus. One tip I would give is that these fish were reared on pellet, so take advantage of the pellet sold on site. Adjustable zigs also account for a lot of captures too.
Also, on site there are showers, toilets, a burger van and a small tackle shop, making your stay as comfortable as possible.

Richmond Lakes (Lincolnshire)
Richmond Lakes consists of two waters. The main lake is only available to the more experienced anglers and both lakes require you to book on before you visit. The main lake is around 16 acres in size with carp to 30lb plus. A large majority of these old fish are chestnut-coloured commons, but there are a fair number of slate grey mirrors residing here too. The fish often travel in small groups so tightly baited areas can produce quick spells of action at times.
The back lake is only slightly smaller but is deceiving due to the abundance of islands, channels and snags. This is a picturesque, mature, natural lake with a good head of fish present, however, the fishing can be tricky at times as they have seen it all over the years. With a good mix of gnarly commons and mirrors though, they are definitely worth the effort - proper carp!
Although I haven’t fished this particular lake much, I often hear that the deep margins produce a lot of fish, and that staying mobile and stalking can be fruitful.
